那年十一、二月份的時間，好像兩三年前，曾經劃著獨木舟，教練指著遠處一片石灘，告訴我們那就是荔枝窩。 北區，香港人可能只會聯想到在上水一群搶奶粉的水貨客，而多少人會想起那片被遺忘三十多年，充斥過去、本土特色、人情味的土地。 荔枝窩，由於交通不方便，一直與世隔絕，換來是一個從不受外來污染、難得清靜、遠離城市煩嚚的地方。 這片清土，經過歷史洗禮，包含濃郁的本土文化，值得一提必定是荔枝窩復耕後的風貌。透過與村民對話，感受香港應有的昔日風土人情。 走過這個旅程，望香港人反思，香港，不應該是她表面上冷漠、功利的商業都市，每次到國外歎息香港沒有此景時，其實我們擁有的比人更多。寄語香港人，本土文化必定先得本地人去支持才能把我們自強不息的精神發揚光大。Two or three years ago around November or December, we were rowing a canoe when our coach suddenly pointed toward a shingle beach and told us, “That is Lai Chi Wo!” The North District reminds us that people from Hong Kong were nothing more than parallel traders who scrambled for infant formula in Sheung Shui. Lai Chi Wo has been forgotten for 30 years despite its rich history, unique local characteristics, and its people. The limited transportation may keep Lai Chi Wo isolated from the outside world, but it protects this place from the pollution, unrest, and bustle of the city. This peaceful land has accumulated strong local characteristics throughout its history. Specifically, Lai Chi Wo boasts of a breathtaking landscape and a noteworthy lifestyle after its rehabilitation. You can experience the old Hong Kong by talking with the villagers. After this journey, we hope that Hong Kong residents will cease to see their country as a cold, utilitarian commercial city on the surface. Hong Kong possesses many of the characteristics that we are longing for and have seen in foreign countries. Hong Kong people should learn that when the local characteristics are supported by the locals, we can glorify and enhance the spirit of constant self-improvement.

本計劃透過北區本土古物古蹟、非物質文化遺產、文化及經濟、老店、工藝、風土人情、節慶習俗、自然風光等，尋找北區鮮為人知，但又代表著香港的每一個角落。參加者需在報名前作周詳策劃，提交計劃書作為甄選標準。
「Backpack Hong Kong」 Objectives:
The programme invites teams of young people between 15 and 29 years of age to discover the hidden cultural heritage that gives the North District its unique character, in terms of historic buildings, local cultural traditions, old shops, handicrafts, festivals and traditional practices, and natural sceneries. As part of the registration for the programme, participants are required to prepare and submit a detailed proposal that forms the basis of the selection.

正當人人說到海外探險之際，生於香港的你，對我們這片土地又有多少認識和感情？我們自覺熟悉這裡，但其實我們和遊客一樣，只熟知日常起居、流行文化等表層，說到香港獨有的文化，可能比一個外國旅行者更少。
北區既有繁華的墟市，又保留了鄉郊的綠，城鄉並存，而且共生。在北區留下足跡，欣賞石屎森林中的奇葩，不僅可以有煥然一新的體驗，更能進一步思考城鄉共生的價值，尋找保育的新方向。
